Dad punches teaching assistant due to lies

UPDATE:
Manatee County School Officials say the girl made the whole story up, and her girlfriends helped her.

They say she was in detention because she poured coke from a second story window on another student.

The person who saw her do it was the teacher's aide that was punched. That's why she was sent to detention.

She made up the story to get back at him. She asked her girl friends to back her story.

In the process of the investigation, one of the girls cracked, and admitted it was a fabrication.

The girls face possible expulsion from school.

At the time the teacher's aide was accused of improperly touching the student, he was on videotape that showed him on the other side of the school.

Original Story:

Bradenton, Florida -- An angry father who punched a teacher's assistant in the face says he was protecting his 15-year-old daughter who had accused the man of inappropriately touching her.

Dave Swafford is charged with felony battery on a Manatee County school employee.

Police say he hit the 35-year-old aide in front of a class full of students at Lakewood Ranch High School near Bradenton on Tuesday.

He was also named "Father of the Year" by a local radio station for his actions.

The assistant, who has not been charged, is on paid leave. School officials say his primary job is "time-out" teacher, overseeing in-school suspension. His name is being withheld by the AP because he has not been charged.

Swafford says he came to the school to meet with officials about allegations made by his daughter and other female students about the assistant's inappropriate touching and conduct. When he saw that the man was not in the meeting, he asked his daughter to take him to the classroom.

School district officials say they have placed the teacher's assistant on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

PROSTITUTE who bit her client's penis so hard he required an operation has denied grievous bodily harm with intent.

Prosecutor Matthew McNiff told the jury Louise Jowett carried out the attack because Brett O'Leary, from Clare, near Haverhill, told her he had no more money to give her after already paying her for sex.

Outlining the case Mr McNiff said 22-year-old Jowett, who denies the charge, had bitten and continued to bite Mr O'Leary for up to 45 seconds during the assault. The force and determination of Jowett's attack was said to have led to Mr O'Leary requiring an operation.

The court heard during the early hours of September 3 last year Mr O'Leary was in the Brownswood Road area of London cruising for a prostitute.

He pulled up by the kerb and Jowett, of Holborn, London, ran to his car. Mr McNiff said as she approached she greeted him with words to the effect of "hello, stranger." The jury was told she had known him previously, and having greeted him got into the car.

When negotiations were complete she agreed to travel with him to his home 60 miles away in Clare on condition she was paid upfront.

The court heard she used the money to purchase drugs via a telephone call while on the way. The pair arrived at Mr O'Leary's home about 2am. Jowett by this time had taken the drugs and they shared a bottle of champagne before having sex.

It was alleged that afterwards she asked Mr O'Leary for more cash, becoming more aggressive as her requests continued. While performing a sex act on Mr O'Leary he told her he did not have any more cash.

Mr McNiff said she took his penis in her mouth and gripped it between her teeth. He said: "She bit hard. She bit very hard. This caused what Mr O'Leary described as indescribable pain."

Smile for the camera....

A San Jose police officer entered a plea of not guilty Thursday to charges he encouraged a 16-year-old Scotts Valley girl to take dozens of nude pictures of herself and then turn them over to him. Kenneth Williams, 49, is a 20-year veteran of the San Jose Police Department. He is charged with four felony counts of using a minor for sex acts, one misdemeanor count of possessing child pornography and one misdemeanor count of destroying or concealing evidence. Williams was accompanied to Thursday's hearing by a group of friends and family members, including his wife. According to court documents, Scotts Valley detectives began investigating Williams on Dec. 12 after the girl's father complained of suspicious behavior involving Williams and his daughter. While Williams is charged with using a minor for a sex act, there is no evidence he had a physical relationship with the alleged victim. According to a newly released affidavit, Williams asked the girl to take nude pictures of herself at least four times and she then gave the camera or its memory card to Williams. "He encouraged her. She's a child. He's an adult and a police officer that encouraged her to take photographs and provide them to him," Santa Cruz County Deputy District Attorney Jeff Rossell said.

Snap... Crack.... Popped!!!

A little boy was returned to foster care today after police detectives found crack cocaine in a Rice Chex cereal box at his mother’s West Spokane Valley apartment during a search.

The boy, now 3, was taken from his mother the first time in 2004 because he ingested cocaine, police said. She regained custody of her son three weeks ago.

Dusti M. Bradeen, 26, was arrested today for delivery of cocaine, but because she took her 3-year-old boy with her on her last trip to sell crack, she was also charged with involvement of a minor in an unlawful substances transaction, Spokane Valley police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan said.

***And you thought the sugars and preservatives in cereal were dangerous!!! Sheesh!!!

Who's there? Springfield Ink?

Some women in Springfield are regretting their decision last week to get a tattoo from a door-to-door tattoo salesman. At least one person had to be hospitalized and the others face serious health risks. Friday night, a man knocked on doors holding a tattoo gun and offering his services. Tamra Eason described the tool as homemade, but still agreed to pay for a tattoo. So did two other women in her apartment complex. "It was wrapped with black tape, had a pin underneath it, had fishing wire going through it, you could tell it was a homemade gun," Eason said. The next day, Linda Falls passed out and had to be hospitalized.

"I passed out in the store and they said I should have it checked out," Falls said. All the women have an infection in the tattoo area and have been told to get tested for HIV and hepatitis. The health department said it's always worth the extra money to get a tattoo from a licensed professional with the right equipment and sterilization procedures. "Getting a tattoo is like a wound. There's a risk of disease that may be long term or life threatening. It's a serious decision," said Jaci McReynalds, with the Greene County Health Department.

Bipolar crossbowist gets life sentence

A judge has sentenced a man to life in prison for fatally shooting his elderly mother with a crossbow.

Martin Circuit Judge Larry Schack issued the sentence Wednesday despite pleas from relatives who testified that Bruce Neal, 43, is bipolar.

After fighting with his mother over her will, Neal shot her with the crossbow in the chest, authorities said.

Officers found Jean Neal, 79, on the kitchen floor of her Palm City home with a bloody arrow on the kitchen counter, according to a police report.

"I loved my mother," Bruce Neal said in court Wednesday. "What I did to my mom was a horrible crime."

Schack said the love that Neal expressed for his mother made his actions more disturbing.

"If you could do this to someone you love, one can only imagine what you would do to others," Schack said.

The judge said he would recommend that Neal be transferred to a prison that would help treat his bipolar condition.

*** Well I was just cleaning the crossbow when it went off.

I was just looking for credit cards or cash. HONEST!!

Nearly two dozen girls were stripsearched at a Pike County vocational school while officials investigated the possible theft of a credit card and money.

The girls in a nursing class at Vern Riffe Career Technology Center in Piketon were taken individually to a bathroom by their teacher on Friday and made to drop their pants, remove their shirts and unfasten their bras and shake them out, said parent Betty Grandstaff.

She and other angry parents said the incident left their daughters shaken and was a violation of the girls’ privacy.

"She was upset and almost in tears," Grandstaff said of her daughter, 17-yearold Heather McCloud. "She has never been so embarrassed in her life."

Superintendent Stephen E. Martin told WBNS-TV (Channel 10) that the officials were doing what they thought school policy allowed them to do. The student conduct manual said teachers can conduct reasonable searches but does not say they are allowed to do strip searches, according to WBNS.

The station reported that the school policy is under legal review, and that the Ohio Department of Education also is investigating.

Grandstaff said she has complained to the superintendent.

"He told me that they had the right to do it, they thought it was a reasonable search and that none of the girls objected."

Her daughter told her, however, that some of the girls tried to object to the strip search but were told, "No, you do it,’ " Grandstaff said.

Grandstaff said that she and other parents think the strip search violated their daughters’ Fourth Amendment right to protection against unreasonable search and seizure.

Parent Carol Knisley said she has contacted the State Board of Education to complain. Her 18-year-old daughter, Misty Knisley, was among the students subjected to the strip search.

"I about went through the roof on this," said Knisley, who said she went to the school Monday and spoke to Smith. "He said he OK’d this, and said, ‘I’m here to protect my school.’ I said, ‘It ain’t going to be swept under the carpet.’ "

The Department of Education told WBNS that a teacher violating a student’s rights could lead to the suspension or revocation of a teaching license.

Crack dealing in Tennessee? Pay your taxes!!!

During its first year, Tennessee's "Crack Tax" has brought in nearly $2 million dollars in state revenue.

The illegal substances tax went into effect last January.

Basically, drug dealers are supposed to pay taxes on illegal drugs and alcohol.

They pay confidentially, and when they do, they get a stamp.

If they're caught without the stamp, they'll be prosecuted for not only selling drugs, but for not paying their taxes too.

All money made from the stamps goes to fighting drugs

***Honestly officer, I do not sell drugs but I just would like the stamp to be safe!!!

Lone Star Lunacy?

Though incumbent Governor Rick Perry is almost assured to win the Republican nomination for this year's gubernatorial election in Texas, he does face three long-shot challengers. One of them, Corpus Christi rancher Star Locke, has proposed eliminating property taxes in the Lone Star State with revenue from taxing three things he finds undesirable. Specifically, Locke is proposing a $10,000 per-abortion tax on medical clinics that perform abortions and a 50 percent tax on all soda that "contains added glucose, fructose, sucrose to the beverage for sale to humans."

However, gamers will be especially alarmed by the third part of Locke's property-tax-relief proposal--a 100 percent tax on "violent video games." According to the candidate's official website, the candidate would impose "The Family Security & Protection Act" when elected. Section 4 of the act calls to "levy a 100 percent of price sales cost tax for the sale on ... any video game containing any form of human violence."

Be on the look out for 600 year old pirates.

French police who spent two years trying to identify a woman who was murdered by a blow to the head were relieved to discover the reason their efforts were failing: the woman died half a millennium ago.

The skeleton of a woman in her 30s was found during an exceptionally low tide in December 2003 near the seaside Brittany town of Plouezoc'h. A long gash in the skull convinced investigators she was killed with a hatchet or other sharp implement.

Police ploughed through missing persons' files to no avail. A theory that the woman was the wife of a Normandy doctor who disappeared with his family in a famous 1999 case was dismissed after DNA tests.

Eventually radiocarbon dating established that the death had occurred between 1401 and 1453.

"We are satisfied because at least we know the date now. We reckon it was pirates," said Francois Gerthosser of the Plourin-les-Morlaix police on Tuesday.

How do you remember the Challenger?

Twenty years ago, millions of television viewers were horrified to witness the live broadcast of the space shuttle Challenger exploding 73 seconds into flight, ending the lives of the seven astronauts on board. And they were equally horrified to learn in the aftermath of the disaster that the faulty design had been chosen by NASA to satisfy powerful politicians who had demanded the mission be launched, even under unsafe conditions. Meanwhile, a major factor in the disaster was that NASA had been ordered to use a weaker sealant for environmental reasons. Finally, NASA consoled itself and the nation with the realization that all frontiers are dangerous and to a certain extent, such a disaster should be accepted as inevitable.

At least, that seems to be how many people remember it, in whole or in part. That’s how the story of the Challenger is often retold, in oral tradition and broadcast news, in public speeches and in private conversations and all around the Internet. But spaceflight historians believe that each element of the opening paragraph is factually untrue or at best extremely dubious. They are myths, undeserving of popular belief and unworthy of being repeated at every anniversary of the disaster.

The flight, and the lost crewmembers, deserve proper recognition and authentic commemoration. Historians, reporters, and every citizen need to take the time this week to remember what really happened, and especially to make sure their memories are as close as humanly possible to what really did happen.
